About the position

University Facility Services is looking for a self directed, self motivated and hard working Welder to be a part of our Sheet Metal Shop. In this role the duties will include welding, fabricating, installing, and repairing sheet metal, plastic, or fiberglass products and/or equipment. The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively and provide good customer service while having good working knowledge of trades and maintenance. Working conditions may include restricted movement, dirty environment, extreme temperatures and intense noise. This also includes lifting and carrying heavy objects. Note: All maintenance employees are required to drive University vehicles daily as part of their primary functions.

Responsibilities
? Designs, fabricates, joins and/or repairs equipment, fixtures and various types of metal objects and structures using oxygen-acetylene, electric arc, MIG and TIG welding techniques.

? Welds in controlled atmosphere, plasma welds, and cuts.
,
? Welds high vacuum and high pressure systems.
,
? Heat treats and thermosprays equipment, fixtures, and various types of metal objects and structures.

? Operates drill presses, power saws, grinders, metal lathes and a variety of welding equipment and hand tools.

? Analyzes plans, drawings, work samples, specifications and work orders to determine work requirements and sequence of welding assignments.

? Recommends supplies and materials to be ordered.

Requirements
? High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
,
? Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
,
? In addition to the education and experience minimum qualifications, Apprenticeship program, technical training experience required.

? Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
