Job Description
Responsibilities
The Applications Systems Programmer assists in developing and
modifying the universities applications systems encoding/scripting,
testing, debugging and documenting the programs. They will ensure
that all applications are integrated and data is being transferred
efficiently between them. The Applications Systems Programmer will
design and build automated stored procedures along with SQL Server
Integration Packages and monitor the SQL jobs which run them. They
will maintain the application server and provide application system
updates when necessary. The Applications Systems Programmer reports
to the Administrative Computing Services Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Administrative Daily Mode of Operation (DMO) Tasks
Manage and follow-up on Ticket issues Daily
Provide Quality Assurance on outstanding stored procedure
issues
Manage Projects & Project Timelines
Insure JICS site functionality and site speed
Monitor application system backups and restore to testing
environment
Review IT Administrative Support master calendar
Check database performance periodically
Check database for duplicate data and resolve/merge duplicate
data
Technical Support
Create and maintain SIS packages
Microsoft SQL, Oracle SQL, JAVA, HTML, Visual Basic, RAILS
Create or Update Reports via SQL or Jenzabar Izenda
Queries
Build API Integration between qualified university
applications
Provide Technical Support for the Jenzabar database
Provide Technical Support for the CashNet database
Provide Technical Support for the Blackboard database
Creates relevant documentation of automated processes
Researched specific technical software and related questions
and problems
Coordinates between personnel using the computer systems and
vendor support personnel.
Implements system backup procedures and participates in
recovery operations in the event of destruction of all or part of
the operating system or other system components.
Participates in the planning, installation and implementation
of equipment interfaces and peripheral devices.
Analyzes software specification for completeness and
compatibility with operating system capabilities.
Reviews and documents software failures and takes corrective
action as directed.
Collaborate with cross functional teams to determine more
efficient ways to integrate university systems.
Presentations
Provide Presentations to Vendors when required
Provide JCSU Web Portal Training to Students, Faculty, &
Staff
Provide system related training when required
Qualifications
A bachelors degree in computer science, management information
systems or relevant work experience in system applications quality
assurance. Has between 0-2 years of related experience. Knowledge
of HTML, JAVA, Oracle SQL, Visual Basic, Microsoft SQL, &
Access. Proficient with Microsoft Office, Office 365, Google Apps,
& Apple Products. Self-motivated with the ability to complete
tasks unsupervised. Has soft skills with the ability to communicate
with upper management. Strong communication and analytical
skills.
Incumbents must be able to work as a member of a collaborative team
and provide excellent customer service to a diverse community of
faculty, staff, and students.
